Anchored on the Republic Act No. 1425, also known as the “Rizal Law,” which stipulates the inclusion of Jose Rizal’s life and works in the curriculum of all educational institutions in the country, the Dr. Jose P. Rizal: The Timeless Filipino aims to reignite students enthusiasm and reintroduce them to the profound ideas of our national hero and transformative experiences that shaped his intellect and heroism.

The textbook helps students navigate through Rizal’s life, ideas, and creative works. It gives a deep understanding of his formative years, the people and events that molded his character, and how he became a symbol of inspiration for future generations. It also invites them to reflect on the consequences of colonialism, the struggle for identity, the enduring power of literature as an agent of change, and the transformative power of a single individual in shaping a nation. The authors hope that by letting the learners immerse themselves in Rizal’s narrative, they can give readers a full picture of the national hero’s ideas and works and encourage them to think critically about his lasting legacy.

The book is presented to make the learning of the text inquiry-based and collaborative through the end-of-the-chapter assessments. Learning objectives, exercises, enrichment activities, chapter summaries, trivia, and suggested readings are logically articulated to facilitate students’ mastery of the subject matter and develop critical thinking skills in line with the provisions of the General Education Curriculum (CMO 08 Series 2017).

About the Authors 

Rowena A. Pila, DPA obtained her doctorate degree in public administration at Polytechnic University of the Philippines and masters degree in public administration at Jose Rizal University. She finished her bachelor’s degree in history in Far Eastern University. 

She has been a faculty member in Far Eastern University, Miriam College, Arellano University, Jose Rizal Universiy, Fatima University, and Meycauayan College. At present, she is teaching in Rizal Technological University’s Social Science Department of the College of Arts & Sciences and also serves as a Refresher Course Lecturer in preparation for the Licensure Examination for fourth year students under College of Education in RTU and FEU.

She has authored various books on Rizal, Philippine History, Sociology, Teaching Profession, and Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Reviewers. She also presented researches in local, national, and international level, and published several research papers in the international recognized research journals. She has served as judge in research at the national level; conducted symposia, seminars, and LET review classes; and delivered talks as a resource speaker.

She is the president of Association of Fil-Am Educators (Metro Manila Chapter 2019–2021) and Association of Professional Teachers and Researchers, Inc. (2022–present). As an officer of the organization, she shares her expertise through involvement in community service based on the needs of Filipino teachers.

 

Atty. Cecilio Dioneda Duka, LPT, EdD is a well-known lawyer and educator, a prolific writer who has already authored 12 books and co-authored 3 books on Philippine and Asian History, Rizal, World Geography, Education, Law and The Teaching Profession, Labor Laws, Social Legislations, Labor Relations and Negotiation, Public International Law, Constitutional Law, and Reviewers for the Civil Service Examination and LET.  

He is a much sought-after lecturer in the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education for lawyers and Bar Review in the Recoletos Law Center, Jurists Bar Review Center, University of San Jose–Recoletos, University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, Arellano University School of Law, Legal Edge Bar Review Center, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and the UP Law Center. He also lectures in the LET and Civil Service Review Programs in different schools and review centers all over the country. He is a distinguished resource speaker in various seminars and conferences in the areas of law, education, and social sciences, both nationally and internationally.

He is a holder of Juris Doctor degree from San Sebastian College of Law, a Doctor of Education and a Master of Arts in Education degrees from the National Teachers College. He finished his Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Sciences from the National Teachers College as Magna Cum Laude. Prior to his appointment as Dean of the College of Education of the University of Makati, he was active in the practice of labor law, criminal law, and civil law. He has occupied various teaching and administrative positions in San Sebastian College Institute of Arts and Sciences and College of Law, Arellano University School of Law, PLM School of Law, De La Salle University Graduate School of Education and School of Law, Far Eastern University Institute of Arts and Sciences, and The National Teachers College. He was appointed Dean of the College of Education of the Philippine Women’s University at the age of 26.
