Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences introduces students to the nature of the social sciences, its emergence, and the various disciplines that comprise the fi eld. The book also explains the importance of qualitative and quantitative methods of inquiry as well as the multidisciplinal and interdisciplinal approaches as methods of looking at society. It also discusses the dominant approaches and methodologies used to analyze society, which are classified into three methodologies: namely, positivist, interpretive, and critical social sciences. Apart from illustrating Western models, the book brings to light the significant contributions of Filipino social thinkers from the 19th century to the proponents of indigenous social sciences in contemporary times.
